SONIA LIM

Education Background: Born in British Hong Kong, and raised in Myanmar, Sonia Lim graduated from The University of Melbourne, with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and International Studies in 2018. She also holds a certificate in Cyber Risk Mitigation from Harvard University ( online ), a certificate in Public Policy and a certificate in Cybersecurity and Public Leadership from Oxford University ( online ). She is currently studying the Juris Doctor in Law at Monash University Australia. 

Work Experience: Upon graduation, she helped managed and advised her family business in manufacturing, based in Myanmar. She has also undertaken several legal internships in Corporate/Commercial law, Litigation and Disputes Resolution at Lucy Wayne MBE & Associates, Allen & Gledhill, CMS Law and Payne Claremont Velasco. At CMS, her performance has been described as ‘consistent’,‘dedicated’, ‘highly professional’ under stressful situations and that she has handled her work with ‘great care’ and has a ‘great eye for details’. 

Youth Leadership: She has founded several non profit organizations. At 17, she founded the Carpe Diem Project that organized concerts for children with disabilities, and had up to 1000 attendees. She acted as the CEO and Spokesperson for the RefugeeTranslations Project in 2014, that helped breaks language barriers for immigrant communities in New York. In 2017, she created and co-founded the Women In Commerce and Politics club to help improve representation of women in patriarchal areas. She has also led recruitment for the Stand Up! student ticket and was the first international female student to be nominated as General Secretary at The University of Melbourne Student Elections 2017. Her student profile has been published on The University of Melbourne website. 

Pro Bono Work Experience: She has liased with  experts and non profit organizations to write about, design and present about cybercrime prevention programs at a variety of events, forums, conferences and workshops for the business and civil community. She has volunteered as a policy researcher and radio presenter for an environmental think tank, and has been credited as ‘one of the Best Presenters’ for the Earth Radio Podcast program in 2023.

Interests/Fun Fact: She is a fitness enthusiast and martial arts athlete, and has competed in Kendo competitions and tournaments. She loves singing and has performed for social gatherings in her free time. She has also helped set up a TV show, where she was a regular host for 6 months in 2020.
